This lecture features Dr. Louie M. Valdivia, who will share his personal journey of discovering and studying Chinese culture. Holding dual Ph.D. degrees in Oriental Languages and Chinese from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Valdivia has devoted many years to the study of the Chinese language and culture. He previously served as a Visiting Lecturer at Kumamoto Gakuen University in Japan.

In recent years, Dr. Valdivia has dedicated himself to the artistic practice of Chinese calligraphy. Last year, he was invited by the Taiwan–Japan Cultural Heritage Exchange Association to participate in a calligraphy exchange program in Japan. Drawing on his academic background and personal experiences, he will reflect on how Chinese culture has shaped his intellectual and artistic pursuits. Through this firsthand account, attendees will gain fresh perspectives on the richness of Chinese culture and the enduring appeal of the art of calligraphy.
