Prospect
Founded in June 2025, the Center for Sinology Development at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) was established under the Regulations Governing the University Innovation Headquarters of National Cheng Kung University. Supported through a strategic partnership with the Tainan Highest Good Education Foundation, the Center is dedicated to advancing the study of Han civilization through classical scholarship, interdisciplinary innovation, and meaningful engagement with the challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world.
The Center serves as a hub for research, education, and international scholarly exchange, with the long-term goal of becoming a leading center for Sinology. Grounded in the rich historical and cultural heritage of Tainan, southern Taiwan, and the broader Taiwanese context, it promotes sustained research on Han culture, cultural landscapes, and traditional cultural environments while engaging with emerging directions in global scholarship.
Drawing upon Taiwan's distinctive historical experience and cultural diversity, the Center seeks to cultivate a model of Sinology that integrates local perspectives with international academic discourse. Through interdisciplinary research, cross-cultural dialogue, and global partnerships, it aims to strengthen the international profile of NCKU Sinology, contribute to the advancement of Sinology worldwide, and foster a deeper understanding of the enduring significance of Chinese civilization in an increasingly interconnected world.
