The lecture will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Academic Lecture Hall of the Department of Chinese Literature at National Cheng Kung University. It will be moderated by Professor Lin Su-e of the Department of Chinese Literature, National Cheng Kung University, with Professor Sato Masayuki of the Department of Chinese Literature at National Taiwan University invited as the speaker.
Professor Sato Masayuki will offer an in-depth discussion of the composition and intellectual context of the Doctrine of the Mean, a classic Confucian text, analyzing its process of formation from the perspectives of phrases and discursive structure. He will examine the possible period of the text’s composition and explore its editorial objectives and historical background, further clarifying its distinctive position within Chinese classical literature.
As one of the Confucian classics, the Doctrine of the Mean has exerted a profound influence on Chinese intellectual history and culture.
