Moderated by Associate Professor Kang-Ning Chen of the Department of Chinese Literature, National Cheng Kung University, this lecture features Dr. Louie M. Valdivia, retired Senior Intelligence Research Specialist of the U.S. Customs Service and former Visiting Lecturer at Kumamoto East Asia Gakuen University.
The lecture was held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:00, in the Calligraphy Classroom of the Department of Chinese Literature, College of Liberal Arts.
This lecture invites Dr. Louie M. Valdivia to share his journey of encountering and studying Chinese culture. Dr. Valdivia holds dual doctoral degrees in Oriental Languages and Chinese from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He previously served as a visiting lecturer at Kumamoto Gakuen University and, in recent years, has devoted himself to the artistic practice of calligraphy. Last year, he was also invited by the Taiwan-Japan Cultural Heritage Exchange Association to participate in calligraphy exchanges in Japan. Through Dr. Valdivia’s personal account, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
