This series aims to promote academic exchange and knowledge sharing in the field of Chinese Studies. The Chinese Studies Lectures will invite a number of distinguished scholars to engage in in-depth discussions on various topics in Chinese Studies, while providing an interdisciplinary academic platform through which participants can gain a deeper understanding of the development and historical contexts of East Asian and Chinese cultures.
The two lectures scheduled for December 23 and November 26, 2025, will cover a wide range of topics, from history and culture to art and religion. Among the first invited scholars, Professor Heng-Tse Lin of National Cheng Kung University will deliver a lecture titled “Foreign Cultural Elements in Northern and Southern Dynasties Buddhist Statues,” offering an in-depth exploration of artistic characteristics during the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the influence of foreign cultures. Professor San-Ching Wang will present “Journey to the West and the Trial of Saints, Demons, and Spirits,” analyzing the development and cultural value of ancient Chinese mythology from the perspectives of religion and myth.
In addition, the lecture on November 3 will address “Research Approaches to Cultural Adaptation among Chinese Communities in Southeast Asia,” presented by Professor Hsiao-Min Lee, with a focus on the distinctive background and historical development of Chinese culture in Southeast Asia. This lecture series not only offers diverse perspectives on Chinese Studies, but also guides participants in exploring the academic significance of cross-cultural inquiry and provides insights into contemporary global cultural exchange.
